Ricky Shabazz has more than 10 years of experience as professional tournament angler, guide and outdoor writer. Ricky started his fishing career while he was in college at UC Davis in Northern California. Originally from Southern California, Ricky developed his passion for bass fishing while chasing largemouth on Lake Castaic and Pyramid with his grandfather.
At age 14, Ricky started spent his summers working at Johnny’s Sport Shop in Pasadena, California. Ricky fished as a co-angler on the WON Bass Tour and Angler Choice Pro-Ams and teamed up with Ish Monroe as team partners while he was in college.
Ricky turned pro his senior year in college and qualified to fish the BASS Top 150 Tour through the old Western BASS Opens. Over the last 10 years Ricky has qualified for every major pro level and team championship in the West. This includes qualifying to fish the BASS Elite Series and FLW Tour, WON Bass Classic, Angler Choice Classic, and a host of other pro and team championships.
Ricky represents his sponsors at sport and trade shows throughout the West and writes outdoor articles for several fishing magazines and online websites. He has a BA in NAS, MA in educational administration and a doctorate in educational leadership. He currently serves as a vice president of a community college where he works to increase college access for underrepresented students. When not working or fishing, Ricky enjoys spending time with his wife Nina and his daughter Soraiya.
